Helen Turley has achieved a cult reputation among California winemakers, consulting to some of the top producers throughout the North Coast. In 1990 she and her husband John Wetlaufer established the Marcassin winery and have developed their own vineyard, planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which is now their main focus. Other Chardonnay cuvées have also been produced from the Lorenzo Vineyard, Three Sisters and Upper Barn, with Pinot Noir coming from Blue Slide Ridge and the Three Sisters Vineyard. The wines are produced in tiny amounts, only a couple of hundred cases per bottling, and will be nigh on impossible to find. Their reputation is formidable and they are very expensive. (DM)
