Prior to 1985 this property was a notable underperformer among the Premier Grands Crus Classés. Since then the wine has been altogether more impressive. The style is medium to full with a marked black fruit opulence but sufficiently firm tannins to provide the structure needed for real cellaring. 1990 was truly impressive and the property has been consistent throughout the 90s and 00s. Further improvements have been made with input now from consultants Stéphane Derenencourt and Nicolas Thienpont, resulting in cult wines being produced in 2009 and 2010 (with prices to match) and seamless consistency since then. The property was upgraded to Grand Cru Classé "B" in the recent reclassification and fully deserves this.
