Production here is tiny at only around 700 cases a year and two decades ago the wine was just a hobby of owner Jacques Thienpont. However, it has become an auction favourite and, partly because of its scarcity, has on occasion fetched higher prices than PÉTRUS. The style is for ripe, opulent and approachable wines rather than ones that are overstructured and austere and the vinification reflects this approach. Malolactic is carried out in barrel and the wine sees 100% new oak which is seamlessly integrated. Undoubtedly a very fine and richly opulent example of Pomerol. 6 ha have also just been acquired in Saint-Emilion. This site is planted to Cabernet Franc and Merlot and is located close to TROPLONG-MONDOT and VALANDRAUD.
