Legendary estate, which produced stunning red and white Châteauneuf for decades under the late Jacques Reynaud. The second label, Pignan, is also very impressive and comes from a separate plot rather than a selection. The property consists of just under 14 ha with old vines planted on sand and clay/limestone soils, rather than on galets roulés. The red is made solely from Grenache while an even split of Clairette and Grenache Blanc contribute to the very ageworthy white. The wines are now vinified by Jacques’ nephew, Emmanuel Reynaud of CHATEAU DES TOURS, who also produces the wines at the Rayas sister property CHATEAU DE FONSALETTE. A Côtes du Rhône, Pialade is also made which blends mainly Grenache, Cinsault and a little Syrah. (DM)
