This 90 ha property, including 22 ha just added from PHELAN-SÉGUR, produces exceptional Saint-Estèphe each year. The property is second only behind fellow Second Growth COS D’ESTOURNEL in the appellation hierarchy. These are massive, powerful, brooding wines – dense, tannic and long-lived. Sometimes the fruit struggles to emerge through the iron fist in which it is enveloped. Generally though, in the last decade the wine has become suppler and possesses greater harmony and it was consistently good through the 1990s. 1990 and 95 suggest super five star status and more recently 2010 achieves the same. 03, 05, 06, 09, 14 and 2015 should all be comparable in time. La Dame de Montrose is an impressive second wine.
