Along with Le DÔME, this is one of the two great garage wines to emerge in the last half decade. Produced at CANON-LA-GAFFELIÈRE, the vineyard consists of 4.5 ha planted on clay/silt soils over a rocky subsoil. It is superbly drained with an unusually steep south-facing aspect. It is this low-yielding terroir that is responsible for a wine of remarkable depth and concentration. Blended from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, it offers a truly opulent and exotic array of dark fruits and oriental spices. It is produced in the classic Derenoncourt style with ageing on lees in new oak for a year and a half and is bottled unfiltered. The wine has been certified organic since the 2014 vintage. (DM/NB)
