A tiny-production cuvée from Gérard Perse, the owner of PAVIE. From a 2 ha parcel on limestone-based soils, the wine is a blend of 90% Merlot and 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Yields from the 45-years-old vineyard are in fact much lower than at Pavie or Pavie Decesse at just 15hl/ha, which contributes to the rich, concentrated, almost opulent style. This is a big, full and formidably extracted wine with lashings of new oak; very good, if just lacking the depth and purity of the truly great Right Bank reds. Give it 5 years to soften the tannin, although it is quite approachable for a wine at this level.
